Started As A Revolution

Story Behind the Song

A reflective commentary on the often-unintended spiritual impact of social & political revolution. Apply it to your favorite episode of "my turn to be in charge."

This song is one of my less giddy compositions, to say the least. I based it on the principle expressed in Proverbs 14:12--"There is a way that seems right to a man [or woman], but in the end it leads to death." This is not a statement of hopelessness; it simply means that in our fallen state, we are ultimately helpless to save ourselves. Every revolution based on merely human ideals is a temporary, shallow fix on an eternally-dimensioned dilemma. No matter how loud the crowds cheer or how inspiring the speeches are, the whole thing eventually winds down. The former (key word: former) Soviet Union is an easy example, as is the so-called Sexual Revolution of the 60's; any others spring to mind? Anyone? Anyone?
